As the House of Representatives renews consideration of legislation to help bring relief to America, AARP Chief Operating Officer Tom Nelson issued the following statement:

“Boomers and individuals already in retirement are being hit the hardest as the markets remain unstable. The value of their homes are plummeting, their retirement dreams are dying and they feel as though they can do nothing but watch their children’s opportunities become more and more limited.

“Over the past few days AARP initiated a call to action through our online community to urge our activist members to contact their elected leaders. The response has been strong. To date, these members have sent more than 110,000 emails to Congress to tell them that the cost of inaction is a price they are not willing to pay. Their voices have joined the countless others who are saying ‘Enough is enough.’

“This is not about saving another Wall Street investment bank – it’s about protecting our futures. The financial security of millions of people hangs in the balance. Doing nothing is no longer an option. Our elected leaders in the House must put partisanship aside and stand with their constituents who are demanding action.”
