AARP Chief Operating Officer Tom Nelson issued a statement today following the President’s remarks on volunteerism:
“We’re pleased to have the White House kick off this week dedicated to volunteerism. Baby Boomers and older Americans first answered the call to serve at home and overseas as the first members of the Peace Corps and VISTA. Today, they’re living longer, healthier lives than any generation before them, and they hold the potential to solve our nation’s most urgent problems through volunteerism. AARP is committed to helping our members stay active and healthy as they give back to their communities and make a difference.”
On Tuesday, AARP will release a new report on volunteerism among Baby Boomers and older Americans. The report, a joint effort with Civic Enterprises, was produced as part of the Association’s role in ServiceNation, a national call to action to solve some of America’s toughest challenges through volunteerism. ServiceNation will launch on Sept. 11 in New York City. For more information, contact AARP Media Relations or visit www.aarp.org/createthegood.
