With an expected announcement of no Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA) in 2010, AARP CEO Barry Rand called on House and Senate leaders to provide $250 in emergency relief to millions of older Americans who are struggling in this economic climate. In the next five years, as many as 160 thousand families and individuals with affordable rental homes in 20 major metro area locations – those with easy access to frequent, appealing, public transportation with desirable destinations-- may face higher rents as federal contracts on their apartments expire, a new report published by AARP warns.
