NRTA: AARP's Educator Community has the pleasure of working closely with state Retired Educator Associations across the country and it is an added pleasure to spotlight their work. Recently the Indiana Retired Teachers Association celebrated "Indiana Retired Teachers Appreciation Day" at the Rotunda of the Indiana State House. Governor Mitch Daniels, Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall Shepard, and legislative leaders joined forces to recognize and honor the contributions of retired educators throughout the state.
Governor Daniels made a special presentation to Edna Parker, a retired teacher and the world's longest living person at 115. Chief Justice Shepard presented Harriett "Happy" Curts with an award for her work on behalf of CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, who speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children going through the court system.
Celebrations honoring educators like this remind us all of the great work teachers do both in the classroom today and in their community even after they retire. Their yearning to teach and give back to their community never ceases and, for that, we are all grateful.
With best regards,
Megan
