NMAER volunteers served the older adults in their community by working with organizations such as Meals on Wheels and driving seniors to the grocery store and doctors’ appointments. Others earned community service hours while working with youth in classrooms, serving as court-appointed special advocates for children, tutoring, and raising funds for scholarships.
I receive similar reports from REAs nationwide about how their members stay active through volunteerism. In each case it shows how educators continue to help others long after they leave the classroom—and what gifts those retirees are to our communities!
