5 Things to Know
1. Diversity at AARP is not an initiative. Diversity affects every person, every project, and every transaction in our world today. It is not a short-term program that we begin and end. It is the way we do business.
2. Diversity is everyone’s job. Diversity is a core business strategy for AARP, and everyone contributes to AARP’s ability to achieve the mission. Our Office of Diversity & Inclusion helps to facilitate and coordinate the work, but it is essential that each employee understand his or her role and how he or she, as an individual, can be more inclusive.
3. Diversity is tied to the bottom line. True success is shown through establishment of metrics and inclusion of diversity into our tools and processes for planning, education, communication, and hiring.
4. Supporting diversity in the businesses and suppliers we work with helps to establish AARP as a leader and contributor to the community. Opening our procurement opportunities ensures that we draw on a diverse supplier base and that we share our growth with Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs).
5. Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) educate and provide professional development opportunities. They are a font of information for AARP about particular issues. We currently have 11 ERGs that are based on specific areas of interest to the organization and to employees.
