The Amber Alert has been a successful public-safety tool, which distributes information about lost and endangered children through just about every media outlet imaginable.

Now, some states are mimicking the missing-child protocol to alert the public about elders who can't find their way home.

The missing-elder protocol is called the “Silver Alert.” Independent producer Rich Halten brings us this story.
