"The Tonight Show" is more than just a late-night television program. It's a cultural touchstone for generations of Americans. On September 27, 1954, Steve Allen hosted the first episode, and it's been on the air through 55 years.
Today, the man with the monologue is newly-minted host Conan O'Brien.
