Even to this day, the music of Laura Nyro is better known in performances of others—from the 1968 Fifth Dimension hit, "Stoned Soul Picnic," to Blood, Sweat, and Tears' cover of "And When I Die."
That's too bad, because Nyro was a potent songwriter and an absolutely dynamite performer. Now, Broadway star Judy Kuhn has released a new album of Nyro's best material. Maybe more attention will be paid.
We caught up with Kuhn in her New York City apartment, while she waited for a cell-phone call from her young daughter.
