We Are AARP Ñ We Are You

"An army of useful citizens" can do what no one person can.

So proclaimed Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, an educator of rare vision and spirit who founded AARP in 1958 on the principles of collective purpose, voice, and purchasing power. Today, we at ARRP champion her dream through relentless action.

We are a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that defends its members while advocating for positive social change - public, private, and personal. We help people help themselves and others by empowering them to volunteer. We protect the vulnerable through charitable relief. And we lead and shape the marketplace by urging America's companies to give our members fulfilling choices. Thanks to our pioneering group health insurance, travel discounts, and many offerings that improve financial well-being and lifestyle, we enable our 39+ million members to connect, give, and enjoy. At AARP, we believe people should mature with dignity and purpose while achieving their unique personal goals.

Throughout 2008, AARP's 50th Anniversary tour will unite all generations from coast to coast. We'll kick off renovation projects that will leave communities standing stronger. We'll confront the challenges and find the opportunities of key issues like health care and financial security. We'll reward high schools for their innovation and commitment to creative education to the tune of $1.5 million. Cap it off with our annual event and expo, Life @ 50 in Washington Dc on September 4-6, 2008
