AARP Adds Quality Rx Research to Its Website
Source: AARP.org | | March 21, 2006
AARP now offers an online consumer guide—Know Your Rx Options—that provides comparative information about the effectiveness and safety of brand-name and generic drugs within nine prescription drug classes. A "class" is a group of drugs that are similar in effect and are used to treat the same illness; for example, statins are a class of drugs used for lowering cholesterol, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are a class of drugs used for treating arthritis.
AARP's conclusions found on the site are based on an independent review and assessment of the available medical evidence undertaken by the Drug Effectiveness Review Project of Oregon Health and Science University's Center for Evidence-based Policy.
