Interested in meeting new people while making life better for the 50+ population in Tennessee? Become an AARP Tennessee volunteer through the Regional Impact Teams!
Volunteers have played an important role in AARP since its beginning in 1958. Their efforts in Tennessee support AARP's work in many ways and make AARP a vital presence in communities throughout the state.
In Tennessee, AARP has created Regional Impact Teams (RITs) in several cities, which provide the grassroots support for AARP's goals. Currently, we have more than 400 volunteer RIT members and hope to grow through 2004.
Whatever your interests—communications or community service—impact Teams have a role for you. Here are a few examples of recent RIT activities:
- Over 340 volunteers visited over 1,160 residents in local nursing homes for our Day of Service.
- AARP volunteers participated in Independent Living summer activities focused on helping people stay in their own homes as long as possible.
- RITs were integral to the passage of AARP's Nursing Home CARE Reform Act in 2003 by lobbying their legislators through personal visits and phone calls.
- RIT members participated in voter educational activities by distributing voter guides, attending candidate forums and working on get-out-the-vote efforts.
Join a Regional Impact Team to make a difference in your community. For up-to-date RIT activities, please check out the Announcement Board. To join a RIT, please email the state office at tnaarp@aarp.org. We would love to welcome you!
