New State Director Joins Missouri Staff
John McDonald joined the AARP Missouri state staff team as state director on Sept. 2. McDonald retired from the federal government after more than 35 years of service in various capacities. Most recently, he worked for the Corporation for National Service (CNS) for 31 years, the last 18 of which he served as the state program director for Missouri. McDonald also served as CNS State Director for New Hampshire and Vermont.
McDonald was appointed to the Missouri Community Service Commission in 1999 by the late Gov. Mel Carnahan. The Commission developed, selected and provided oversight for Americorps projects and promoted an ethic of service throughout the state.
"I have always admired AARP," McDonald said, noting his familiarity with the Association. "There is a lot of commonality with my former organization and AARP, particularly regarding getting things done by organizing and managing volunteers. Seniors have proven over and over that they are a valuable community and natural resource."
McDonald received his B.S. degree from Pennsylvania State University and completed the Executive Development Program at the University of California-Berkley. He and his wife, Beverly, have four grown daughters and one granddaughter.
