Charles Leven of Millbrook, NY, was elected by the Board to serve as Vice President – Board Governance for the 2004 - 2006 biennium and, in this capacity, chairs the Board of Directors’ meetings. He also chairs the Board Governance Committee and the CEO Evaluation Committee. During the previous biennium, Mr. Leven was Vice President - Secretary/Treasurer and chaired the AARP Audit and Finance Committee and the National Nominating Committee. He also was a member of the AARP Services, Inc. (ASI) Board.
Prior to his election to the Board, Mr. Leven served as state president of New York, chair of the New York AARP Leadership Council, and an AARP/VOTE Program team member in the 19th District. He also was state coordinator for AARP's Work Force Programs and state coordinator for AARP's Citizen's Representation Program.
Mr. Leven recently was selected to serve on the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Consensus Committee for Manufactured Housing. His other volunteer activities include membership on the Attorney General's Crime Victim's Board and the Dutchess 2000 Health Care Planning Board. He also serves on the NY State Department of Aging Advisory Board.
Prior to his retirement in 1994, Mr. Leven held a variety of positions in retail management including senior vice president of operations for Saks Fifth Avenue and Abraham and Straus. He most recently was a management consultant for a large accounting firm.
Mr. Leven was recognized by the Suffolk County Boy Scouts as selected chair of the Advancement Committee and by the National Retail Merchants Association as selected chair of the Operations Group.
