Gear Up for TriUmph Classic 50+ Swim Bike Run Aug. 17 in Naperville

Want a fitness challenge that can change your life? Want to set a goal to help motivate you to better health? Ever dreamed of doing a triathlon but the Ironman just seemed a bit much?

Take the TriUmph Classic 50+ Swim Bike Run challenge at Centennial Beach in Naperville, IL on Aug. 17. Be a part of AARP's national sprint triathlon series that gives beginners and experienced athletes the chance to compete in a 400-meter swim, a 20k (12.4 mile) bike ride and finish with a 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk. Do it yourself or find two friends and compete as a relay team.

Along with the price of registration, you receive a self-guided 12-week training manual and an opportunity to work with our USAT coaches in an eight-week lecture and course training series.

Training classes start the week of June 16, 7 p.m. Mondays in Chicago and 7 p.m. Wednesdays in Glen Ellyn. Saturday sessions include a free bike clinic on June 21 and on-course sessions later in July. New this year is an added nutrition education program called "Food as Fuel," sponsored by the United States Potato Board (USPB), the Official Nutrition sponsor of the AARP TriUmph Classic.

"The TriUmph Classic was well worth the hard work involved in training for it. I don't feel that I could have done as well as I did without the help of Leslie, Marty and Jason (1:37 for my very first triathlon). I have not become a triathlon "junkie", but I do plan on doing "Naperville" next year and "better" my time. Please keep me posted." Joe Bucaro, age 62, from Chicago

You can do it too. Find more information online or call (800) 424-3410. For training or volunteer information, call (312) 458-3610.

The Illinois TriUmph Classic 50+ Swim Bike Run is sponsored locally by: The Daily Herald Big Picture Local Focus and Dominick’s The Fresh Store
