A Message From AARP Georgia's New State President

Excitement comes with new responsibilities. I am more than a little excited by the opportunity to serve as your president of AARP Georgia. To successfully carry out the responsibilities of this office, I will need the help, support and cooperation of our members and especially that of the dedicated volunteers across this great state who, through their service, have made AARP Georgia the strong organization that it is today.

Composing this message is my first official act as president. Let my first act as president, then, be to say thank you, Betty Klein, for a job extremely well done. There can be no doubt that your years of service as president of AARP Georgia will make my term of service easier and more productive.

Your personality has enriched all of us who have worked with you. Your leadership has inspired us and motivated us to greater effort. Your dedication has encouraged us to a greater commitment. During this time of great change in AARP, your steady hand at the helm helped us to "stay the course" and renew our loyalty to AARP Georgia. Even though the mettle of AARP has been and continues to be tried and tested, you brought people together and kept us together, making us the dynamic organization we are.

There is much more that could be said by way of thanks for your service, and certainly this word of thanks is an understatement. So, let me simply thank you for the most important thing of all—your friendship. May it continue as we both continue to serve AARP Georgia.

A primary function of leadership is to look over the horizon of the present and provide a clear vision of the future, based on a realistic appraisal of present potential. AARP Georgia has an enormous unrealized potential, greater than any other voluntary organization in Georgia. My vision for AARP Georgia is for it to become "the most powerful force for good in Georgia."

My principal motivation for seeking the position of President of AARP Georgia is that this position will offer a greater leadership opportunity to guide AARP Georgia to the reality of this vision. We must now create an intentional strategy that will enable us to realize the vision within a reasonable timeframe, consistent with available resources. I invite and need the help of every member to bring this vision into reality.

I am grateful and humbled by the opportunity to serve as your president.
