Meet the AARP Georgia Executive Council

AARP Georgia state leadership has announced the selection of four volunteers to serve on its executive council. They will join AARP Georgia State President, Betty Klein, and State Director, Ken Mitchell, in serving on the council responsible for helping to set state priorities and to provide counsel on achieving those priorities. Each member brings uniquely valuable skills and experience to AARP.
Cas Robinson, Executive Advocacy Volunteer
Mr. Robinson, of Stone Mountain, is a longtime public servant who has made a professional and volunteer career of deliberating and advocating public policies in Georgia and Washington, D.C. He was first elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 1976, and he was later appointed by the governor and later elected to the Georgia Public Service Commission. Robinson served the Presbyterian Church for twenty years as a pastor and a denomination executive for the Presbyterian Church U.S. Board of National Mission. He currently provides consulting services to non-profit organizations in the development of effective advocacy strategies for their public policy issues.
Elizabeth Kelly, Executive Community Service Volunteer
Ms. Kelly, of Sandy Springs, has been a professional in the human services field, working at the national, state and local level for the past twenty-six years. She began in a multi-service neighborhood organization and transitioned to the United Way, where she has worked for the last 23 years. While at the national United Way of America, she collaborated with a number of well-known organizations such as the American Red Cross, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, YMCA and YWCA. She recently retired as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta. She currently does consulting work with several non-profits in metro Atlanta and is very active in many civic organizations.
Reg Ivory, Executive Communications Volunteer
Mr. Ivory, of Alpharetta, recently retired after fifteen years as executive director of the Southern Newspapers Publishers Association, a trade organization representing the owners and publishers of every daily newspaper in Georgia and twenty other states. Prior to assuming this position, he served similar roles in Florida and Chicago. After serving for six years as an Air Force B-52 navigator and bombardier, he returned to the states and was a staff speechwriter for Florida Governor Claude Kirk. He has served as a lobbyist for the newspapers at the state and national level.
Sylvia Ponder, Executive Volunteer for Member Development
Ms. Ponder is responsible for member development strategies. She is a retired human resources manager for Lucent Technologies, where she also served as charity campaign manager for the Georgia Black United Fund under Lucent's "loan executive program."
