In 2011, the first of 76 million baby boomers turns 65, marking the beginning of one of the most profound changes in American history. In less than 20 years, 35 percent of the population will be over the age of 50. In fact, people reaching that milestone today have half of their adult lives ahead of them.

Hawaii is part of the age-boom in a very big way. On average, people are living longer in Hawaii than any other state in the country. The fastest growing section of our population is comprised of people 82 years and older.

These profound demographic changes will exert enormous pressure on our nation's and our state's social structure. They will also offer significant opportunities for people to remain active, engaged and healthy late into their lives.

AARP Hawaii is well positioned to lead this revolution in our state. We contribute ideas, promote positive social change, and influence how people and institutions respond to the needs of an aging society.

We believe that we have "The power to make it better."

AARP provides information and resources to members, their families and the community at large. We are a strong advocate in the halls of the state legislature and in Washington, D.C. We offer Hawaii's people unique and valuable opportunities to stay fit and healthy. And we continue to offer a range of benefits to our members—including AARP The Magazine and the monthly AARP Bulletin.

So come inside and have a look around. We offer satisfying volunteer opportunities in advocacy and community service, and can refer you to other organizations in Hawaii that are seeking passionate and energetic people looking to give back to their communities.

On behalf of AARP's 152,000 members in Hawaii— mahalo for visiting our Web site to learn more about us and what we have to offer.

Stuart T.K. Ho
AARP Hawaii Interim State President
