AARP Priorities Before N.D. Legislature

Giving North Dakotans additional tools to protect themselves against identity theft will be one of AARP North Dakota's priorities during the 2007 session of the North Dakota Legislature beginning Jan. 3.

Goals for the 2007 legislative session also include:

  • Working for legislation that will help keep a lid on the cost of prescription drugs.
  • Balancing our system of long-term care so North Dakotans have more choices, including resources and supports that allow people to live in their own homes and their own communities longer.
  • Making access to long-term care services consumer-friendly so older adults and their families have reliable, consistent information on all care choices available to them.

As North Dakota's population grows older, AARP wants issues of aging to be top-of-mind among our state's public policy leaders.

"North Dakota's legislative process is very open and easy to access," said Government Affairs Committee Chair Dave Braaten of Grand Forks. "It's very important for AARP members to tell legislators what they want during the session, and North Dakota lawmakers appreciate hearing from constituents. We have important issues coming before the Legislature and we need the active involvement of our members to be successful."
