AARP Georgia Offers Work and Career Information

At a time when individuals are living and enjoying life longer than ever before, AARP Georgia has recognized the need for older workers to remain in Georgia's workforce in its report titled 'White Collar, Blue Collar, Gray Hair: The Changing Composition of Georgia's Workforce'.

Most of us were raised to think that all we needed to achieve success and security was to finish school, get a job with the right company, put in 35 years or so, and wait for the proverbial gold watch.

The reality of today's job market is that technology and global competition are having a dramatic impact throughout the American economy and culture. Specific jobs and industries are going extinct because of these pressures. Long-term careers with one employer are no long the norm. The average job lasts a mere 3.2 years.

Employers are trying to find ways to remain competitive in the international economy. Companies are dismantling pension plans, cutting health insurance benefits, and replacing the gold watch with a pink slip.

With this in mind, AARP Georgia would like to extend a helping hand to those mature job seekers seeking new employment or a chance to re-career by offering information on current work trends, upcoming events, work and career planning resources, and training opportunities around the state and in the metro Atlanta area.

Through the easy to navigate site, AARP Georgia hopes to help those seeking employment at all levels by offering information, programs and services that may be helpful to those seeking a new career or looking to update skills to better compete in today's job market.
