Member, AARP Board of Directors Class of 2010

Richard Johnson, of Wilmington, DE, is a member of the AARP Board of Directors, Class of 2010. He currently serves on the Board Member Value-Social Impact Committee and the AARP Insurance Trust. During the 2006-2008 biennium, he was vice  chair of the Board Membership Committee, a member of the AARP Insurance Trust, and co-chair of AARP's 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee. He also previously served on the Board Membership Committee and the Board Nominating Committee.

Prior to his election to the Board, Mr. Johnson was the advocacy representative on AARP's State Executive Council in Delaware. Prior to that, he served as AARP state president of Delaware and as a member of the AARP State Legislative Committee. He currently is a member of the board of directors of Helpline and served on the board of the Wilmington YMCA.

As AARP State President for four years, Mr. Johnson led Delaware through a number of AARP state successes. He was instrumental in working to advance nursing home reform, telemarketing fraud, and money management legislation in Delaware. Mr. Johnson also served on several steering committees and task forces to help ensure the protection of seniors in Delaware, including the Attorney General's Senior Victims Task Force, the Adult Protective Services Advisory Council, and the Medicare Fraud Patrol Steering Committee.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Johnson was district sales manager and director of national accounts for Monsanto. He received numerous awards including the Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Award, the Volunteer Leader of the Year Award, the Outstanding Leadership Award, and an Award of Appreciation from the Delaware AARP state office.
