Executive Vice President & Chief People Officer
Ellie Hollander is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of leadership experience in association management. She is currently Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer for AARP, where she has elevated the importance of employee engagement as a driver of organizational performance. Under her leadership, employee engagement metrics have increased significantly at a time when national engagement scores are in decline.
Ms. Hollander’s role requires her to be a leader among leaders; ensuring that AARP as an organization, “walks the talk” as a Best Employer for workers over 50. She has been recognized for the development and implementation of strategic and cutting-edge programs that serve as models for employers nationwide. She used her considerable leadership experience in membership development and marketing to revitalize and “re-recruit” the nearly 2500 employees of AARP.
Prior to joining AARP, Ms Hollander spent 23 years in the energy industry: as Director of Marketing for EPRI , an energy research and development membership organization; as Executive Vice President for CMC Energy Services and as the Managing Director of Marketing and Communications for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
She has a consistent and enviable track record of developing and implementing strategies to increase membership retention and recruitment; identifying member value drivers and key satisfaction metrics in membership organizations; developing strategic alliances and coalitions; and building effective marketing and account management organizations.
Ms Hollander is a graduate of Duke University where she double-majored in Economics and French. She also attended executive education programs at the Center for Creative Leadership and Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. She was awarded the CEO’s MVP award at AARP in 2002 and was selected by the Washington Business Journal as one of the 2007 Women Who Mean Business. Ms. Hollander’s creative programs and commitment to a world-class work environment helped AARP achieve recognition in 2008 as a Top Place to Work by CEO Update; and in 2009 as a Best Employer in California by the Employer Group and a spot on DiversityInc.’s Top 50 list of Top Companies for Diversity.
Ms. Hollander currently serves on the Board of Gifts in Kind International and chairs it’s HR Committee.
