Board Chair, Class of 2010
Bonnie M. Cramer, M.S.W., of Raleigh, NC, was elected by the Board to serve as Board Chair for the 2008-2010 biennium. In that capacity she also chairs the Board Governance Committee and the CEO Evaluation Committee. Previously she was vice chair and headed the Board Membership Committee. She also served on the Governance Review Committee, the AARP Insurance Trust and the Board Governance Committee.
 
Ms. Cramer, an experienced budget and human services expert, retired from a 30-year career with the North Carolina state government's Department of Health and Human Services and the Governor's Office of State Budget and Management, where she served as assistant state budget officer for Health and Human Services. She served for ten years with the Division of Aging and was director during a period of rapid development of community-based service systems. Ms. Cramer also was the director of the Office of Long-Term Care Policy and the assistant director of the Division of Facility Services, which regulates health and long-term care services and providers in the state. Prior to that, she held several other director positions within the Division of Aging and the Division of Social Services and was a practicing social worker in child protective services.
 
As a volunteer, Ms. Cramer was a member of the board of directors for the National Association of State Units on Aging, and on the advisory committee for the National Center on Elder Abuse. She also served on the national advisory committee for the Urban Institute's Better Jobs/Better Care Program and Duke University's Long-Term Care Resources Advisory Board.
 
Ms. Cramer has received numerous awards including the Ewald B. Busse Award for Health Care Leadership for Older Adults from the NC Division of Aging; a Public Service Award from the NC Association for Home Care; a Leadership in Aging award from the Duke University Center for Aging; and other awards from the NC state government, the Governor's Office, and the Department of Health and Human Services.
