With rising unemployment rates, plant closings and layoffs, creating and filling jobs has become a national priority. Mature workers, many of whom were thrust onto the job market for the first time in years, often lack the skills required to compete for newly evolving jobs. They can, however, do something about it.
More than 49,000 people were assisted by the AARP Foundation’s workforce programs. For many of them, 2008 marked a fresh start toward greater financial stability through finding and training for meaningful employment. Through workforce programs, the AARP Foundation is focused on helping older workers to remain in or re-enter the workforce.
