2008 AARP Foundation Annual Report

Donors: Real Support

Without your help, we cannot enhance the quality of life for all as we age. Your support enables us to significantly impact the lives of millions of older Americans who are at social and economic risk. The AARP Foundation would like to thank these individual donors and corporations for their support in 2008.

Corporate Support

A key ingredient to helping low-income older adults is the support and collaboration of entities that generously provide financial and in-kind resources to make a real difference in individuals’ lives.

The MetLife Foundation, in collaboration with the Dana Alliance, AARP and the AARP Foundation, supported Staying Sharp forums in major cities nationwide. These live public forums included panel discussions with leading neuroscientists that provided the public with clear and accurate information about how to preserve memory and other mental abilities during the aging process. The grant also supported the update and distribution of a comprehensive series of guides in English and Spanish on “Memory Loss and Aging,” “Quality of Life” and “Learning throughout Life.”

With the support of the New York Life Foundation, AARP Tax-Aide created a user-friendly, Web-based recruitment tool for volunteers. The new technology helped Tax-Aide to increase retention rates and satisfaction levels among newly recruited AARP Tax-Aide volunteers—thus increasing the program’s effectiveness and efficiency.

Bank of America helped low-income women age 40 and older gain greater economic security through programs and scholarships.

With the support of the New York Life Foundation, the AARP Foundation and AARP’s New York State office provided advanced training to professionals involved with children and caregivers in kincare relationships (that is, grandparents raising grandchildren).

The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.’s generous contribution allowed vital programs and services to continue to expand reaching older adults.

With the support of the United Health Foundation we continued to enhance the fundamental programs and services that help older adults to remain independent.

An unrestricted gift from Walgreens Corporation provided much-needed resources to provide essential services to older Americans across the country.
