2008 AARP Foundation Annual Report

Caring for Others

Informal caregiving forms the backbone of long-term care in America. More than 44 million Americans are involved in caring for an aging relative or friend, and about 29 million of these caregivers are employed.

Many individuals faced with caring for an aging relative or friend feel unprepared, frustrated and sometimes resentful. The AARP Foundation was there to help.

Our 2008 achievements included helping caregivers prepare for and manage their responsibilities, and fostering efforts to boost the number of nurses to care for people now and in the future.
