Hrivnak v. NCO Portfolio Management

AARP Seeks to Hold Debt Collectors Responsible

What’s at Stake

Debt collection suits have increased across the country, corresponding to rapidly rising debt loads, exorbitant credit card fees, and the down economy. The consequences of these converging factors are particularly difficult for older people, many of whom subsist on low or fixed incomes, are home all day, and may believe debt collector threats that they will go to jail or lose their homes. The practices being used to wring money out of such vulnerable people, often without any evidence to support claims that a debt is owed, are abhorrent. AARP is urging courts across the country to protect alleged debtors from such practices.

Case Status

Hrivnak v. NCO Portfolio Management is before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.
