Isolation Grants

Combating Isolation

— © AE Pictures Inc.

More than 8 million older adults are socially isolated, a condition that research indicates put them at risk of poor health.

We’re looking at all the connections that make up a person’s life, and are coming up with ways to make sure connections stay strong, even in times of stress and crisis.

Strategic Plan Goals

We’re seeking evidence-based interventions that:

  • Reduce poor health outcomes due to lack of connection

  • Reduce visits to the emergency room due to unaddressed health issued caused by lack of connectedness

Current Work

AARP Foundation commissioned the first in-depth research study to define the depth and scope of the 50+ isolation problem. Our goal is to generate new insights and more effective programs that reconnect isolated individuals to their families and communities.
